Djibouti reduces 82.5% port tariff for Ethiopia’s exports
Djibouti has announced 82.5% reduction in port tariffs for Ethiopia exports.
The reduction, which was announced on Wednesday 15 April, 2020, is aimed at cushioning the economic effects of Covid-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on his Twitter handle lauded the move and expressed gratitude to Djiboutian President, Ismail Omar Guelleh.
“Profound gratitude to President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti for recognizing a neighbour in need,” he said.
Abiy further said that such a gesture from Djibouti was a sign of collective leadership which is essential in the fight against coronavirus.
“With 82.5% reductions in port tariffs for exports at this critical time, the support is testimony to countering the effects of COVID19 through collective leadership,” he said.
Currently Port Djibouti accounts for 95% of Ethiopia’s imports and exports.
