Senegalese government to foot electricity, water bills of citizens
As part of measures to cushion the effects of lockdown in his country, Senegalese President, Macky Sall, has announced plan to foot two-month water and electricity bills of the citizens.
Following the introduction of a curfew in the country, which has plunged many workers into insecurity, President Macky Sall and his government have initiated social aid measures to alleviate the suffering of the population.
Apart from the provision of food in all regions of the country, more than a million households have received palliative packages from the Senegalese government.
“We have decided to pay the electricity and water for households that do not consume more than 25,000 CFA francs,” Sall said.
“The measure only covers a period of two months as it has emerged its continuity or cessation will depend on the coronavirus crisis, he added.
The number of coronavirus cases in Senegal has exceeded 1,000.
