Covid-19: Bangladesh evacuates stranded citizens from USA

Not less than 243 Bangladesh citizens who were stranded in the USA, following the coronavirus pandemic, have been successfully brought back home.

While disclosing this on Sunday May 17, 2020, HSIA director group captain Touhid-ul Ahsan stated the the citizens were brought home by a special chartered flight from Washington D.C.

“A chartered aircraft of Qatar Airways landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) from Washington D.C. via Doha at 3:15 am this morning,” Ahsan disclosed.

Most of the returnees were Bangladeshi students who are studying in different colleges and universities in the USA.

Others were Bangladesh citizens who visited America on tourist and business visa and some government and non-government officials.

There were also 49 school and college students who went to the USA under Educational and Cultural Affairs program.

While speaking at the US airport, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA, Mohammad Ziauddin, stated that all passengers were screened to ensure that they were free from the Covid-19, and each of they received a medical clearance certifying their health status.

He added that the embassy helped those passengers who could not arrange the medical certificates in cooperation with a pool of Bangladeshi doctors in the USA.
