Premier League matches begin June 17, ends August 1
Premier League has announced that 2019/2020 season would resume on Wednesday June 17 after a two month suspension due to coronavirus pandemic.
The league announced the restart following a shareholders’ meeting between the 20 clubs on Thursday May 28, 2020.
Manchester City vs Arsenal and Aston Villa vs Sheffield would kickstart remainder of the campaign in 20 days.
The two matches are “games in hand” rearranged and scheduled to start on Wednesday 17 completion of which would mean that all teams have played 92 matches.
The matches would run through the weekend of June 19 to 21 when the first full round of matches would start.
It was also confirmed that Premier League bosses would like the season to be completed by weekend on August 1.
It was agreed by the 20 clubs that all the 92matches would be broadcast live through Sky Sports, BT Sport, BBC Sport and Amazon Prime.
Richard Masters, Premier League Chief Executive said, “Today we have provisionally agreed to resume the Premier League on Wednesday 17 June.
“But this date cannot be confirmed until we have met all the safety requirements needed, as the health and welfare of all participants and supporters is our priority.”
“Sadly, matches will have to take place without fans in stadiums, so we are pleased to have come up with a positive solution for supporters to be able to watch all the remaining 92 matches.
“The Premier League and our clubs are proud to have incredibly passionate and loyal supporters. It is important to ensure as many people as possible can watch the matches at home,” he added.
“We will continue to work step-by-step and in consultation with all our stakeholders as we move towards resuming the 2019/20 season,” he said.
Staggered kick-off times would be used for the remaining 92 matches.
Friday games would kick off at 8pm, while on Saturday the slots will be 12.30pm, 3pm, 5.30pm and 8pm.
Sunday matches will kick off at either 12pm, 2pm, 4.30pm and 7pm, with Monday games starting at 8pm.
Midweek games on Tuesdays and Wednesday will kick off at either 6pm or 8pm.
The news of the league resuming simply means that the BBC would be televising the matches for the first time since he competition was founded in 1992.
BBC further confirmed that along its Match of the Day highlight programs, it would show four live matches throughout the remainder of 2019/2020 season.
