Premier League records zero new cases in the latest Covid-19 tests
The Premiere League has announced that there were no positive results recorded in the latest batch of coronavirus test conducted on players and club staff.
Disclosing this in a statement on Saturday May 30, 2020, the League stated that the tests conducted on Thursday 28 May and Friday 29 May turned out negative.
“The Premier League can today confirm that on Thursday 28 May and Friday 29 May, 1,130 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, zero have tested positive,” the statement reads.
“The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency.
“No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing,” the statement adds.
As the league is set to resume June 17, all players and staff would be tested twice a week as parts of protocols set to ensure safety return to the game.
The first round of test carried out on 17-18 May saw six tested positive from three clubs out of 748 tests.
Two tested positive from two clubs out of 996 tests in the second test on 19-22 May, while the third test carried out on 25-26 May had four tested positive from two clubs out of 1,008 tests.
The latest test which is the fourth to be carried out since the League announced its return would give a boost to the game restart set to take off by June 17 as it turns out negative.
Meanwhile, Richard Masters, Premier League Chief Executive, while announcing the League unanimous decision to resume the 2019/2020 season, on Thursday said, “Today we have provisionally agreed to resume the Premier League on Wednesday 17 June.
“But this date cannot be confirmed until we have met all the safety requirements needed, as the health and welfare of all participants and supporters is our priority.”
Speaking further he said,
“Sadly, matches will have to take place without fans in stadiums, so we are pleased to have come up with a positive solution for supporters to be able to watch all the remaining 92 matches.
“The Premier League and our clubs are proud to have incredibly passionate and loyal supporters.
It is important to ensure as many people as possible can watch the matches at home.
“We will continue to work step-by-step and in consultation with all our stakeholders as we move towards resuming the 2019/20 season.”
