China faults US restrictions on students

China has firmly opposed the move made by the United States government to restrict Chinese students from studying abroad.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday June 12, 2020, by China’s ministry of education spokesperson.

“We will continue to support exchanges between Chinese and American students and welcome students from all countries, including the United States, to study in China,” the statement reads.

“China urges U.S. to return to reason and respect the will of people. US needs to do more things to enhance mutual exchanges and understanding between the Chinese and American people,” it adds.

On May 29 2020, President Donald Trump signed a presidential proclamation that suspended the entry of graduate students and researchers from China.

Two sources with knowledge of the matter said that last month the United States was planning to cancel the visas of thousands of Chinese graduate students believed by Washington to have links with China’s military.
