Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, in his Fourth of July video message on Saturday evoked the names of Martin Luther King and George Floyd saying that American is yet to live up to its founding principle which simply is “all men are equal.”
Biden said America might have fallen short of equality but struggle continues to ensure that the country enliven those principles.
He clearly stated that America can still get rid of systemic racism inherent in every spheres of the country.
“We have a chance to rip the roots of systemic racism out of this country,” Biden said.
While reiterating the essence of America living up to the core value of the country’s founding principle he said, “It was an idea that couldn’t be constrained. It survived the ravages of the Civil War, the dogs of Bull Connor, the assassination of Martin Luther King, and more than 200 years of systemic racism.”
Making a reference to George Floyd’s killing, he said it was one of those incidents that have pushed the nation to reconsider the scope and concept of justice.
“And just weeks ago, the murder of George Floyd.
“Through it all, these words have gnawed at our conscience and pulled us toward justice,” he added.
Biden also in a tweet on Saturday reemphasized the principle of being created equal and urged Americans to show commitment and action to fulfill the principle.
“Our nation was founded on a simple idea: We’re all created equal. We’ve never lived up to it — but we’ve never stopped trying.
“This Independence Day, let’s not just celebrate those words, let’s commit to finally fulfill them,” he tweeted.
In a video that came hours after President’s speech at the Mount Rushmore, Biden gave a glimmer of hope as he said Americans will together get over any challenges no matter how tough they are.
“We remain locked in a battle for the soul of this nation. But believe me — truly — it’s a battle we can and will win if we act together,” he stated.
