Stranded Muslim Media intern receives free laptop from New York philanthropist
A Muslim Media Corporation intern has received a free laptop from a New York philanthropist after several failed attempts to work effectively at MMC, without a computer.
Teaira Peterson, a 19-year-old graduate of Bronx Engineering and Technology Academy, got selected as an intern after a series of detailed interview at MMC.
Teaira who started her internship on June 9, 2020, said her computer crashed midway and she couldn’t get another one as she was trying to make a balance between work and schooling.
She however said it wasn’t easy for her to perform her work effectively.
“There were no feasible means, at that time, I was struggling to keep up with both school and work, and was making it work as best as I could. However, I felt like I was not doing enough. So I asked for help,” she said.
Luckily for her, a New Yorker who pleaded anonymity, was able to come to her rescue by getting her the computer through a New York philanthropist who heard about Teira’s struggle.
“I am happy to be able to help a student access a virtual working opportunity in the age of COVID-19.
“It is very difficult to succeed as a student without a laptop in normal cases, but it must especially taxing in the age of COVID when everything is online,” the New Yorker said.
She added that “I hope that having a laptop will make it easier for Teaira to do her schoolwork and participate in her internship at MMC.”
Having received the laptop, Teaira expressed profound gratitude and said the laptop was like a “stepping stone for her to reach the stars.”
She said, “I was happy, I have been struggling a lot lately and didn’t think I would get it, but once I got the laptop, it made me feel like i was getting a second chance.”
“It was like a breathe of fresh air,” She added.
Teaira ended her internship on July 18th, 2020 and said she was eager to work with MMC again.
“I have never heard an organization fight and so highly for a better tomorrow for everyone… Right then, I knew and decided that I will want to be a part of it,” she said.
“To be honest, interning at MMC piqued my interest. I was used to everything being done a certain way and then here comes an organization to show me something different in a positive way,” she concluded.
