Somalia’s grenade attack kills deputy district Commissioner, injures 5

A Somali grenade explosion which occurred around Shabelle region has killed Mohamed Abdullahi Kosto, the deputy district commissioner and injured five others.

Ibrahim Hassan, a local police official, reported on Monday August 3, 2020, that gunmen targeted the home of Mohamed Abdullahi Kosto in the Wanlaweyn town with hand grenades on Sunday night.

“Mohamed Abdullahi Kosto, deputy district commissioner who was also acting district commissioner, was killed in the attack.

“At least five people including his father and his wife were also wounded,” Hassan said.

“The wounded, with children among them, were rushed to a district hospital for treatment,” he added.

Police officers in the town arrived at the scene and started an investigation but are yet to arrest anyone in relation to the attack.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the grenade attack in Wanlaweyn.
