NYPD officer dies by suicide near Queens park

An NYPD officer has died by suicide in Queens, police sources said.

The 26-year-old officer shot himself inside a car at 232nd St. and Lansing Ave. in Rosedale at about 12:05 p.m., the sources said.

Medics arrived to find the cop dead at the scene, which was near Brookville Park.

The officer, a Queens resident, had been on the force four years, and worked in an Upper Manhattan precinct, sources said.

Without confirming any details, Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell discussed the incident on Friday night.

“Today, we, as a Department, find ourselves heartbroken again with the tragic loss of one of our members,” Sewell wrote on Twitter. “You are never alone, help is always available.”
