Renowned Iraqi Poet Karim Al-Iraqi succumbs to illness in Abu Dhabi

The world of literature mourns the loss of distinguished Iraqi poet Karim Al-Iraqi, who passed away at the age of 68 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. His demise was confirmed by Arif Al-Saadi, the advisor for Cultural Affairs to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, who expressed his grief on Facebook, saying, “I mourn for you, the poet Karim Al-Iraqi, who passed away in Abu Dhabi.”

Karim Al-Iraqi had been battling cancer for over a year, undergoing numerous medical procedures in his fight against the illness. Born in Baghdad in 1955, he was celebrated for his remarkable contributions to journalism and poetry, leaving an indelible mark in the literary landscape of the Middle East and his homeland, Iraq.

In 2019, his exceptional talents were recognized with the prestigious Prince Abdulaziz Al-Faisal International Award, further solidifying his legacy as a luminary of contemporary Iraqi literature. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of his admirers and a profound impact on the world of poetry.
