In a high-stakes match in the Saudi Professional League, Al Shabab dealt a severe blow to the reigning champions, Al-Ittihad, by claiming a hard-fought 1-0 victory. The 12th-round clash in Riyadh kept fans on the edge of their seats with a dramatic turn of events, including the intervention of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Despite Al-Ittihad’s initial control over the ball during most of the first half, they succumbed to an early goal by Carlos Junior. In a critical moment near the end of the game, Al-Shabab had the chance to double their lead when a penalty was awarded to Yannick Carrasco. However, VAR reviewed the decision, and it was subsequently overturned, leaving the score at 1-0.

The second half saw Al-Ittihad trying to stage a comeback, but their efforts fell short. Romarinho appeared to find the back of the net late in the game, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside call.

This defeat extends Al-Ittihad’s winless streak to five consecutive matches, leaving them with 21 points from 12 games. They currently trail the league leaders, Al-Hilal, by a substantial 11-point margin. On the other hand, Al-Shabab’s victory brings their total points to 15, offering hope for a brighter season ahead.
