TODAY, August 18, Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer, alongside NYCHA Vice President for Public Safety Gerald Nelson, Ravenswood Tenants Association President Carol Wilkins, and Ravenswood residents celebrated the completed installation of 626 new lighting fixtures at the Ravenswood Houses.
The new lights have been installed on the facades of all 31 buildings in the development, as well as in doorways, parking lots, walkways, and playgrounds. To install the lights, workers also re-routed the circuitry of the buildings. The entire project cost nearly $4 million.
“The safety of my constituents is of utmost importance,” said Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer.“Ravenswood residents have complained for years that dim and broken lights were making the community unsafe. The investment in this upgrade is already paying off—residents feel better walking at night, and crimes have dropped considerably. I’m proud to have helped make this much-needed project happen.”
