Program Celebrates Muhammad Ali Legacy with ALI 75 Service Campaign

LOUISVILLE, KY— Lonnie Ali, wife of the late Muhammad Ali, is proud to launch a new initiative that allows the world to celebrate her husband’s legacy and recognize that “There’s Ali in All of Us.” Muhammad Ali famously said “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” The Ali in All of Us Initiative encourages people to give back, and inspire acts of service.

The first element of the initiative invites the world to be part of the ALI 75 Service Campaign. In honor of what would be Muhammad’s 75th birthday on January 17, 2017, ALI 75 asks people around the globe to give 75 hours of service over the next year. The program hopes to have one million active participants at the end of 2017.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. volunteer rate has been steadily declining over the last decade. The 2015 report shows that 24.9% of the U.S. population over the age of 16 volunteered at least once in the past year. However, in 2011, this percentage was 26.8%, and in 2005 it was 28.8%.

“The world needs this global push for service, now more than ever,” said Lonnie Ali. It is time for a new generation to build on Muhammad’s legacy and celebrate his life with the ALI 75 campaign.”

Beginning your ALI 75 service journey is simple. Text “ALI” to 75475, upload your photo and follow the simple steps to build your profile. Each time you’ll select how your act of service aligns with one of Muhammad Ali’s core principles and a United Nations Sustainable Goal. We’ll make you aware of service opportunities with charities in your area and encourage you to keep going and achieve the goal of 75 hours of service.

No act of service is too small. From helping with a park cleanup, volunteering at a shelter, or stopping to check on an elderly neighbor, ALI 75 emboldens a new generation to carry Muhammad Ali’s torch and celebrate the “Ali in All of Us.”
