STATEMENT ON TRUMP’S EXECUTIVE ORDERS ON IMMIGRATION AND BORDER SECURITY

Bronx, NY – “President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed two executive orders on immigration and border security, which will substantially step up deportations and immigration enforcement. These orders included the construction of a U.S.-Mexican border wall and will push punishment for sanctuary cities. Trump’s directives signal tough actions toward the 11 million illegal immigrants already in the United States, most from Latin America. Also, Trump is expected to sign additional bills that would block the entry of refugees from war-torn Syria and suspend the entry of any immigrants from Muslim-majority Middle Eastern and African countries.”

“These plans are Trump’s blueprint for mass deportation. It will empower Trump’s deportation force to go out and start rounding up people at will with no real set of criteria.”
“New York State is known as a city of immigrants and it will not become a cog in the Trump deportation machine. He would have NYC turn into a dragnet city. So we must stand together to condemn Trump’s hate-fueled actions.

“We will fight at each level of government against his intolerance. And I will proudly stand alongside my colleagues in government to work at the NY state assembly on legislation that will protect immigrant families in our communities.”

“This is a sad time for this nation. “We must condemn these action taken by Trump and we must continue to stand up and fight.”
