UNITED KINGDOM ASSISTS NIGERIA ON TACTICAL OPERATION TO SUSTAIN PEACE

Peace is very essential in every society to sustain growth and development. Nigeria over the years has recorded huge number of conflicts which had affected the economic stability.

In Order to sustain peace in the country, military officials from the Nigerian service and the United Kingdom have promised to work together to build on an already existing synergy to enhance its tactical operations in curbing conflicts in Nigeria.

Recently, official representatives of both countries came together in an executive meeting to mark the end of a week-long training on joint military planning in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. The participants expressed their assurance that knowledge gathered would be put to use in sustaining peace and development.

The Director of Policies, Defence Head quarters, Major General Kasimu Abdulkabir while addressing the participating officers said; ” the challenges we face today threatens the cooperate existence of our dear Nation. Fighting these challenges is a collective effort and our success hinges on sound planning and synergy”. It is absolutely necessary to assist and collaborate in order to tackle existing issues on safety and development.

Also, the Defence Adviser to the British High Commission, Charles Calder who is among the UK representatives reiterated that both countries had organised a similar training last year which will continue on a yearly bases. He also confirmed that the development was part of the ongoing relationship with Nigeria which is to create assistance across a whole range of activities from operational planning to tactical planning. It is believed that tactical planning in evacuating conflicts around the world yield high rate of positive results.

Previously, the UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon announced a step up in training to help Nigeria forces stamp out the threat posed by Boko Haram. He said “We stand united with Nigeria in its efforts to defeat the murderous Boko Haram extremists. Stepping up our training efforts will help support the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) for crucial counter-insurgency operations”.

Subsequently, United Kingdom had an intention to more than double the number of British personnel deployed on training tasks in Nigeria in the coming year, with up to 300 expected to provide support. Also,
The deployment of a specialist team to provide assistance in countering improvised explosive devices, as well as medical training and advice was made available as promised. Just of recent, a new RAF (royal air force) training team to improve the knowledge and skills of the Nigeria Air Force in airfield defence and counter insurgency, which is part of the 300 personnel organised a tactic planning training in Nigeria.

The military officials who attended this training expressed their gratitude to the UK as a whole. They confirmed that the training had opened their eyes to better means of sustaining peace. They also believed that the collaboration will eventually yield positive results.

The world had taken to notice the importance of peace which has resulted to collaborating and assisting one another in resolving conflict. United Kingdom has proved to be a peace loving and peace making country, therefore, Nigerians hope that it will go a long way in sustaining peace in the country.
