TODAY, Thursday, May 11th, Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer and the Department of Transportation, Department of Design and Construction, Council Member Constantinides, President of the Ravenswood Houses Tenant Association Carol Wilkins, and residents from Ravenswood Houses celebrated the much-needed resurfacing of 21st Street. Majority Leader Van Bramer and the community have called for safety and drivability improvements to this once pothole-ridden corridor for years.

“We have been fighting for the repaving of 21st Street for years,” said Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer. “Resurfacing this 20-block corridor means safer transit for everyone. And while we still have a long way to go to make our streets truly safe and comfortable for all, I am thrilled that drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists no longer need to be terrified of unpredictable and unsafe roads up and down 21st Street.”

Majority Leader Van Bramer announced the resurfacing of the twenty-block stretch on April 11th. The work began the week of April 11th and continued until early May. The work began at Broadway and continued to 47th Avenue, making the street safer and smoother for motorists and cyclists. This project is a part of the continuing improvement of transportation infrastructure that Council Member Van Bramer has called for in western Queens, including the nearly $1 million in improvement work along Northern Boulevard announced in March to address the high number of pedestrian, cyclists, and motorist accidents.
