In order to encourage the needy during the holy month of rahamadan, the Kano State Government has earmarked N300 million for the annual Ramadan free feeding programme scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 27. The Ramadan free feeding programme is introduced by the government to assist the poor break their fast during the Holy month.
This programme is meant to provide food, drinks and fruits for the poor during the fasting period. Malam Ibrahim Kankarofi, Chairman of the programme made the disclosure at a meeting with coordinators of the feeding centres at Government House, Kano on Friday. This announcement has brought smiles to the poor people’s face.
It was confirmed that the state government had made adequate preparations to ensure the success of the programme across the 44 local government areas of the state. This really will take off feeding burden from the poor Muslims in the state.
Kankarofi warned that any official found diverting or selling the food items would be appropriately punished. He further said that the food is strictly meant for the poor Muslims and not for sale.
According to him, the state government has approved additional menu including Spaghetti and Macaroni as well as other items. This additional menu has given the people a multiple choice of food for consumption. He also urged well-to-do Muslims in the state to complement the government’s effort as the programme was aimed at assisting the poor in the society. He further states that the rich Muslims should take it as a priority to feed any poor individual around them.
Principal Private Secretary to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who is also the chairman of the programme directed the coordinators to ensure prompt distribution of the meals to the right people. He said if there is any report of meal diversion, whoever is involved will be penalised.
Malam Abba Shehu, responded on behalf of the coordinators by promising to discharge their duties as expected and with utmost fear of God. He further confirmed that the coordinators have been selected with “trust and faith” criteria which directly assured him that diverting meals will be the last thing in their minds.
Rahamadan is the holy month of fasting. The governor of Kano state believed that the only way to make this month priceless and worthy for the poor is by providing them with meals. Consequently, the poor Muslims in Kano are really excited and prayed that the government of Kano will continue to be great.
