No doubt,  the commencement of service of the Standard Gauge Railway project is serving the people of Kenya, especially in areas of transporting people and goods from one end to another. Mombasa to Nairobi can now be covered within five hours compared to the 12 hour transport duration of old.

As the President, the Uhuru Kenyatta launched the train on Wednesday, Kenyans should expect ease and improved service with this development. It is reported that the train is named Madaraka Express (ME), a name to remind Kenyans of the day Kenya attained internal self-rule in 1963.

According to a promotional advert on the train,  it is made known that the Makadara Express is set to offer both intercity and county train services as a way of accommodating large number of users and attracting increased patronage.

Regrading the movement of the train, the intercity train is said to operate between Nairobi and Mombasa while the county train service on the other hand will however make stop overs at Mariakani, Maisenyi, Vio, Mtito Andei, Kibwezi Email and Athi River. It’s perhaps a new dawn for Kenyans on transportation.
