As part of promise of the Buhari led Administration to invest in the development of youths in the country, Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has been reported to call for the reopening of the online portal of the government’s job initiative N-Power on the 17th of June, 2017.

This was disclosed by the Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Madam Zainab Ahmed, noting that this was directed by the Acting President for the sake of accommodating more unemployed youths flooding the labour market. She therefore urged youths to anticipate and apply accordingly in order to stand a chance to be a beneficiary.

She further revealed that the federal government is looking at increasing the existing number of beneficiaries of the programme to a percentage double the current number. It is reported that the programme has benefited over 1.6 million Nigerians, citing that the N-Power has benefited 200, 000 individuals.

“For example, in N-Power Scheme that 200,000 beneficiaries have been employed, we are supposed to increase it to 500,000 beneficiaries in 2017,” the Minister said.

“There is opportunity in the N-Power Programme for employment. There is opportunity in the GEEP for you to get finances to be able to start businesses. Please this is real, it is working, join the process and be a beneficiary,” she urged.

While assuring Nigerian youths of the government’s promise, the Minister disapproves of big wigs soliciting for slots in the empowerment scheme for relatives and close kinsmen. From her statement,  credible youths with correlating bank details will enjoy from the programme. “We want to make sure that each beneficiary has bank account linked to BVN; we are targeting the right people, not just people nominated by big people.”
