Zimbabwe prepares for the 2019 AFCON qualifier against Liberia, announces Knowledge Musona as new captain

Once again, Musona will be leading his team as captain. This suprise honour came on Tuesday,  6th of June, as Coach Norman Mapeza announced him (Musona) as the new title bearer for the Sunday match against Liberia at the National Sports Stadium. Musona will be relieving Willard Katsande according to the pronouncement of the coach.

Musona has been a skillful player with accolades and mentions in the country’s football progress. His appointment to lead the team is however not a new attainment as he has captained at the national Under-17 team according to his past records. Notwithstanding, Musona expressed surprise on the news of his new appointment, acknowledging it as a well received honour.

“It is an honour to represent your country. It was rather a surprise for me, I wasn’t expecting it,” Musona said following a time out in their training base at Yadah Hotel Complex in Harare. He pointed out that leading in football is not a single person responsibility but all inclusive.

“But this is part of football. Football is not only played on the field of play, but comes up with extra responsibilities. It is not like I will be leading alone. It is not an individual thing to lead the national team, but everyone is a leader and it is more about teamwork than anything else.”

As the new Captain, he prepared the mind of his team mates, challenging them to take the game as it comes. He said it is one thing to lead, it is another thing to record success. And highlighted that Success is not so easy to come by.

“It is something else leading the team to qualify again, but we know it is not that simple, it’s a process and we would like to take each game as it comes and see what happens after the last game,” Musona said.
