Suicide bomber blasts in the South capital of Iraq
In the Iraqi town of Musayyib, south of the capital Bagdad, 20 people had been killed and 34 were wounded after the suicide detonated explosives at the market place. The town was hit by several attacks this year. This place is 60 kilometer south of Bagdad.
An interior ministry spokesman told AFP news agency, “A suicide bomber blew himself up in Musayyib market, causing 20 civilian martyrs.”
Per Al-Jazair, a police officer and a medic at a local hospital said at least 34 people had been wounded in the blast. The attack took place just after the bomb blast at the Holy city of Karbala. It has been less than two weeks; two blasts in the space of 12 hours, leaving at least 27 wounded and 100 were injured.
The Islamic state of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) commonly known as ISIS claimed the responsibility for the suicide attack. They claimed the attack in a statement on its Amaq website, which took place in the district of Kaddara.
Same thing happened last year in July; ISIL claimed an attack that killed nearly 300 people in the capital. It is considered to be the worst attack ever in 13 years of war.
In addition to that, Iraqi forces are currently fighting to retake the last ISIL held area in Mosul. These terrorist activities led to high number of casualties over three weeks.
This is the second suicide attack in the month of Ramadan. Even dozen of Iraqis are killed on 30th May, 2017 in an ice-cream factory after breaking the fast, the bomb was planted in the car. ISIL took the responsibility and late the militant group claimed for the second attack, saying its suicide bomber had targeted gatherings of Shia Muslims. The Old City is facing the most difficult situation.
