Dangote donates food items worth N200 million to support displaced persons in Nigeria

It is often said that a Nation develops faster when there exist a synergy between the government and the people. This synergy especially when has to do with progressive contributions from both parties. The Dangote Foundation has been known over the years for her philanthropy activism. This charity arm of Africa’s Richest Man is one foundation that has been at the fore in bettering lives of less privileged people.

From 2012 till date, the foundation has donated nothing less than N6.3 billion as welfare support for internally displaced persons. After the 2011 post-election violence, alone, about N364 million is estimated to have been donated to help those who were rendered homeless from the blow of the violence. On Monday, 12th of June, the foundation, is reported again in the news, to have carried out another phase of humanitarian service. This time, to the IDPs in Borno State, with food items worth about N200 million.

According to the report, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, in the spirit of Ramadan, dimmed it fit to support government efforts to ameliorate the suffering of the IDPs. In a report statement signed by Francis Awowole on behalf of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote is “willing to complement any government efforts designed to ameliorate the suffering of the IDPs anywhere.” And, more importantly, this time “given that it is Ramadan period,” the business tycoon emphasised.

Zouera Youssoufou, the Chief Executive of the Foundation, who on behalf of Dangote made the donation explained that the donation package is the founder means of giving back to the society. A way of putting smiles on the faces of those in the IDPs camp.

“This gesture is in continuation of the Group’s efforts to provide succor to Internally Displaced Persons in Borno State.” She added that it is “to ensure that the IDPs also have a successful Ramadan period just as their other Muslim counterparts in other parts of the world.

“The Foundation is providing food items worth N200 Million to support the IDPs in the state. Today, the Items the Aliko Dangote Foundation have delivered include: Rice, Spaghetti, Sugar, Salt, Millet, Maize, Noodles, Semolina and Wheat Meal.”
