Azerbaijan gives recognition to two universities

On Wednesday June 21 2017, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has signed an order to give recognition to the two universities in the state.

State News Agency of Azerbaijan confirmed that Baku State University and Azerbaijan State Economics University has gotten recognition.

It is an order by the President that those two universities would be given a status of public legal.

He said, “The Baku State University and Azerbaijan State Economic University will be granted the status of public legal entity under the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan.”

According to the official News Channel, the President said, “At a time when countries such US, Australia and Germany are placing universities at the heart of their plans for recovery and betterment, we cannot afford to be left behind in the ‘race to the top’.”
The Cabinet Ministers have been tasked to prepare a draft charter of the legal entity, as well as proposals on those exercising authorities of founder and submit to the president within two months.

Earlier Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on re-organizing the Azerbaijan University of Languages.

The Education Minister illustrated through a series of opinion pieces that Universities have a central role to play in realizing the government’s plans for growth.

He said, “Universities encourage investment, exports and a more balanced economy; create an educated, flexible workforce. These are keys to make Azerbaijan the best place in Asia to start, finance and promote business. Universities bring regional that lead ways in which universities can be best utilized to help Azerbaijan to establish in future.”
