Melaka: A 36 years old lady Mastura (who works in a clothing boutique in Dataran Pahlawan)  in the southwestern state of Malaysia bought online beauty products last week that eventually made her face became even worse than before.

The lady lamented that when she applied those harmful creams, she felt something itchy on her skin and she felt swelling, and when she looked into the mirror, her face was terribly swollen.

She said, “I have used the products several times this year but last week I bought the same product from a college student for RM 50. After using it, my face became painful; it turns red while skin became itchy.

“My checks swelled up while I had difficulty opening my eyes, causing my daily activities including my sleep is disturbed,” she added, “Because of the pain, I went to the clinic near my home and was given medicine. I was referred to the skin specialist in Hospital Melaka.

“I hoped that other people will learn from my experience that they will not be obsessed with looking beautiful until they had to endure shame and pain.”

She further reported that she had used the same product several times and saw differences in my skin which became more smooth and beautiful. “But once I used the product purchased on Thursday, my face swelled up on Friday.”

Her friend Faizah Moh Noh said, “When I looked at her, I was shocked.”

Dr. Aidil Azry Datuk Mokhtar (Specialized in Aesthetic medicine) said, “The most beauty products that work quickly such as whitening creams contained chemicals such as raksa, hydrouinone, tretinoin, asid azleaik and betamethasone.”

He warned that those chemicals could cause the skin to become thinner, red, sensitive and exposed to diseases such as skin cancer.

“I advise people to be more careful in choosing beauty products. Don’t be fooled by products that act quickly to brighten your skin,” he said.
