Tanzanian government in the act of foot-greeting exchange

The Tanzanian State house has shared a picture of the Tanzanian president John Magufuli and opposition politician Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad exchanging foot greeting as the deadly COVBID-19 keeps spreading.

The picture was released on Tuesday March 3rd, 2020.

The foot greeting between the president and the opposition leader was in strict observation of the earlier warning by the country health ministry that warns against “hugging”, “kissing” and “handshake” as a precautionary measure to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

“Considering the spread and numbers of recorded cases of the COVID-19 which has caused over 3,000 deaths across the globe with nine times cases of infections outside China, Tanzania is not known to have recorded any cases of infections in the country,” an official said.

“The foot greeting exchange which was to avoid the higher risk of contracting the virus which should serve as a message to every citizen in the country,” the official added

Following the unprecedented spike in the spread of COVID-19 infections, the World Health Organisation and governments around the world, Tanzania inclusive have given stern warning to people to restrain from “hugging, kissing and the most common greeting custom, handshaking.
