Iran receives medical aid from European countries

Britain, France and Germany have diplomatically bypassed the US sanctions to provide medical aids to Iran.

The medical aid was provided with the use of the Instex system, a complex financial system.

According to German Foreign Ministry, the medical goods exported to Tehran by the European countries was the first using the Instex Mechanism.

“France, Germany and the United Kingdom confirm that INSTEX has successfully concluded its first transaction, facilitating the export of medical goods from Europe to Iran. These goods are now in Iran,” said the German Foreign Ministry in a statement.

Britain, France and Germany have disclosed earlier this month that they had offered €5million to Iran to help it combat coronavirus.

They are also sending medical equipment for laboratory testing and protective body clothing.

“Now the first transaction is complete, INSTEX and its Iranian counterpart STFI will work on more transactions and enhancing the mechanism,” the statement added.

It is hoped that the Europeans countries would use the Instex mechanism to carry out more transactions with Iran as that would help them avoid transactions in US dollars as a result of the US sanctions on Tehran.

Since 2018 when the United State President Trump unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, Iran had complained that European countries are not fulfilling their ends of the bargain by ceasing to trade with Tehran as they fear breaking the US sanctions.

This has had a great impact on Tehran and could be the reason the country has not been able to effectively manage the pandemic in the country. The Iranian leaders though blame the US for its inability to effectively tackle the virus because of the sanction.

The leaders accordingly warned that the situation could get worse and that many more lives could be lost in the pandemic
Considering the data given on Tuesday by Kianush Jahanpur, Iranian health ministry, there has been 44,600 infected cases with 2898 deaths record from coronavirus in the country.

“In the past 24 hours, there has been 3,111 new cases of infected people. Unfortunately, 3,703 of the infected people are in a critical condition,” Jahanpur said
