Kagame counters AU leader, describes support for Tedro misplaced priority

Following the global call for the resignation of the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the President of Rwanda, Paul Kegame, has countered AU leader, Moussa Faki, stressing that the solidarity call for the director’s resignation is a misplaced priority.

Kegame went to his Twitter handle to express his displeasure about the accusation levelled against the WHO director. He, however stated that it is a frivolous accusation at a time when the world battles ravaging pandemic.

He stated that what is necessary at the moment total concentration on the fight against coronavirus.

US policitians had alleged that Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was complicit in the coverup of the cases of coronavius in China.

While reacting to the accusation, Kegame wrote on his Twitter handle “Totally agree, and asking this, is it Dr. Tedros, WHO, China under attack or all of them together?”

“Let’s focus on the fight against this pandemic, whoever should be held accountable will come later and do properly,” he stated.

“Save us too much politics. Africa does not need it. Who does?” he added.

While expressing, his view, regarding the accusation, Moussa Faki, an AU leader, wrote on his Twitter handle, “Surprised to learn of a campaign by the US govt against @WHO’s global leadership. The @AfricanUnion fully supports @WHO and @DrTedros.”

“The focus should remain on collectively fighting #Covid19 as a united global community. The time for accountability will come,” he added.
