Covid-19: US companies change products, focus on health-related supplies
Many of the United States manufacturing and production companies have changed their main products to health-related supplies in order to help fight shortage.
Clothing companies like Gap and Hanes are now making scrubs and gowns; Ford and General Motors are remodeling fans and batteries used in cars to make ventilators; luxury brands are producing hand sanitizers while Boeing and Apple are making face shields.
Mr. Michael Rubin whose company produces athletic apparel in Pennsylvania said, “Well, it is our responsibility to help pitch in.”
Dr Nada Sanders, a professor of supply chain management at Northeastern University has applauded the firms’ responses during this time of dire need.
“Companies want to step up to the plate and so many are. I really applaud them, but I also find it even more frustrating because I see chaos,” he said
President Donald Trump has also targeted some companies with orders to produce health supplies in high demand and as well banned the exportation of medical supplies.
He, alongside the Federal health officials has announced a $50 million deal with General Motors to produce 30,000 ventilators.
