UK landlords engage female tenants in sex-for-rent bargain
Following the prolonged lockdown and stay-at-home directive issued to curtail Covid-19 around the world, some unscrupulous landlords have capitalized on the emerging economic realities to seek sexual gratification instead of rents from their female tenants
Women complain that, “Predatory landlords are asking for sexual favours in exchange for rent during the coronavirus outbreak.”
Millions of people around the world have either been laid off or suspended due to the pandemic as governments impose harsh lockdown measures to curb the spread of the disease.
But unscrupulous landlords leverage the current situation to exploit vulnerable tenants who find it difficult to cope with the financial trouble and are unable to pay rent, according to reports.
US immigration attorney Kevin Block says some landlords are asking for “other arrangements” and even sending graphic sexual images when female tenants ask about rent.
“I am concerned because reported incidents indicate a greater number of unreported incidents,” Mr Block told CNN.
The landlords offer free or cheaper house rents and bills for other utilities in exchange for sex.
In a sex-for-rent deal, a number of landlords have specifically sought after young female tenants who would be ready to have sex with them for at least once a week in exchange for no or lower rent.
Some of the landlords, without hesitation, made their moves public by placing adverts for it with most of the Craigslist ads replete with the sex-for-rent offers.
