Three more cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Somaliland bringing the total cases in the country to five.
Somaliland’s Minister of Health, Omar Abdillahi Badey, made the announcement today in a press conference at the Ministry of Health Development.
Two of the new cases were recorded in the country’s capital city, Hargeisa, while the third one in Borama of Awdal region.
All three cases are mild and they are not showing any symptoms, according to the health minister.
“Today we inform the people of Somaliland that there are three new cases of coronavirus infections,” the minister disclosed.
“The health condition of these people is very well and they are showing no symptoms of the disease. One person is now in Borama, while the other two are in Hargeisa,” he added.
Somaliland’s big cities except for Laascaanood and Erigavo have now recorded at least one coronavirus case.
Minister Badey added that two more people suspected of contracting the virus are now closely followed by the ministry.
The minister said these cases were identified at the national laboratory and were confirmed by WHO certified labs in the neighboring countries.
Over the past week, Somaliland received testing kits and other medical supplies from its partners including the WHO and the United Arab Emirates.
This has boosted the nation’s capacity to carry out more tests with shorter waiting time for the results. It’s expected to be fully functional within next week
