Covid-19: Saudi to reopen over 90,000 mosques across the kingdom
About 90,000 mosques are about to be reopened on Sunday May 31st in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance and its staff are all set to embark on maintenance, cleaning, and sanitization processes.
Mosques would however reopen based on the instructions that would be given by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif Al-Asheik, in line with an advisory issued by the Senior Council of Ulemas.
In order to educate the public on the necessary precautionary medical measures, instructions and procedures, the ministry is expected to, as complementary to its portal and other digitally-administered websites, employ a wide range of campaign on all media outlets, TV channels, radio stations, newspapers and online news platforms.
The information would be delivered in several languages recognized internationally in order for everyone in the Kingdom to have access to the information and abide by the instructions for their safety.
Among several instructions outlined are doing ablution at home, proper hand washing and use of sanitizers before and after leaving the mosque.
Elderly ones with underlying chronic diseases are urged to have their prayers in their homes.
As regards recitation of the Qur’an, people are strongly advised to read Qur’an on their mobile phones or have a privately owned copy of the Qur’an.
It is also recommended that people should go to mosques with their own prayer mats and maintain two-meter distance apart from one another while on prayers.
Also recommended are use of face masks, scrambling and avoidance of handshakes outside mosques.
It is similarly prohibited to accompany children below 15 years of age to mosques.
Worth of a mention is the massive cleaning and sanitization and mosque maintenance that the ministry has been putting in place throughout the Kingdom incorporating world class quality and best known practices since almost two months of mosques closure.
Over 10 million mosques are being sanitized by the ministry, about 43 million copies of several sizes and volumes of Qur’an are being distributed across mosques in the Kingdom coupled with over 600,000 Qur’an cupboards.
Similarly, about 176,000 water closets annexed to mosques are being repaired and maintained by the ministry.
