WHO sets to renew relationship with US
The World Health Organization has said that it is still interested in collaborating with the United States.
The UN health agency disclosed this on Monday 1 June, 2020 during a virtual press conference.
This news is coming after the US President Trump’s decision to cut ties with the Geneva-based agency.
President Trump also accused, on Friday May, 2020, the world health body of failing to make reforms. He further threatened to terminate the US relationship with the organization over its poor handling of the coronavirus.
“The US involvement with the organization had made a great difference over the decades and “it is WHO’s wish for this collaboration to continue,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO chief said while reacting to the Friday’s statement by the US President.
“The World has long benefited from the strong and collaborative engagement with the government and the people of the United States,” Tedros told a virtual press conference on Monday 1 June, 2020.
Reacting to the Friday’s speech by the US President, the world health organization said it had yet to receive any official communication from the White House to that effect.
