US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, have discussed China’s actions in Hong Kong and how it treats the Muslims in Xinjiang.
A British summary of the discussion reported the keynotes of the meeting between the two countries’ officials on Tuesday July 21, 2020.
Downing Street said they spoke about shared global security and foreign policy issues, including China’s actions in Hong Kong and Xinjiang, the situation in Iran and the Middle East peace process.
“The prime minister and secretary of state also underlined their commitment to negotiate a strong UK-US free trade agreement that benefits the economies of both countries,” it added.
During the discussion, Pompeo and Johnson reiterated the importance of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance by the United States.
Johnson also spoke about the death of 19-year-old Briton Harry Dunn who was killed in a road collision with a US diplomat’s wife.
The prime minister emphasized the need for justice to be done for Harry Dunn and his family.
“He said there was a strong feeling among the people of the UK that justice must be delivered,” Downing Street said.
Pompeo is in London for a two-day visit, which is also scheduled that he will have talks with UK’s Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.
