OIC describes Israeli attacks on Palestinians as ‘barbaric’, calls for immediate de-escalation, UN intervention

The Executive Committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has condemned Israeli attacks on Palestinians, saying they are ‘barbaric’.

While issuing the condemnation at its executive meeting which was held at the level of foreign ministers on Sunday May 16, 2021, the OIC called for immediate de-escalation and UN intervention.

“We strongly condemn the Israeli barbaric attacks on Palestinians and the occupying power in the Palestinian territories, especially Al-Quds Al-Shareef,” the committee said at the meeting.

The committee therefore adopted some resolutions during the virtual Open-Ended Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Executive Committee.

The meeting resolution clearly and particularly warned about dangerous consequences of Israel’s deliberate inflammation of religious sensibilities and provocation of Palestinians and the Islamic Ummah.

“OIC renews rejection and condemnation of ongoing Israeli settlement colonization of, and establishment of apartheid system, in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,” the Ministerial Resolution reads.

It adds, Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa Islam’s first qibla and third holiest mosque are a red line for the ummah there can be no security and stability until they are fully liberated from occupation.

The Committee strongly condemed the barbaric attacks launched by Israel, the occupying authority, against the Palestinian people and their land and holy sites.

It demanded complete and immediate stop of these attacks that “have affected innocent civilians and their properties, in gross violation of international law and United Nations resolutions on the question of Palestine”.

It therefore warned that continuation of and incitement to these attacks and provocations, the threat on the lives of innocent civilians cause severe suffering to them.

It stressed that the attacks increase the risks of instability, with serious implications for security in and outside of the region.
