Broadway’s masking policy is set to be extended through the end of June, the Broadway League announced Friday.
The League said the owners and operators of all 41 Broadway theaters will extend the current mask requirement for all audience members over the age of 5 through at least June 30
“We’re thrilled that nearly a quarter of a million people are attending Broadway shows weekly in this exciting spring season. As always, the safety and security of our cast, crew, and audience has been our top priority. By maintaining our audience masking requirement through at least the month of June, we intend to continue that track record of safety for all, despite the Omicron subvariants,” said Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League.
The news comes about two weeks after many Broadway theaters dropped vaccination requirements for audience members.
Although, those who attend performances at theaters may not need to show proof of vaccination, masks are mandatory, unless they are actively eating or drinking at all Broadway shows.
New York City has also begun to strongly recommend wearing masks in all indoor settings after the city moved from a “medium” COVID-19 alert level to a “high” alert level earlier this week.
Protocols for theatergoers in July and beyond will be announced in June, the League said Friday.
