The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) has issued a remarkable 2,358,000 self-employment documents for freelancers during the first half of 2023.

These substantial figures have been unveiled through the ministry’s modern work pattern platforms, which have been introduced nationwide. The Kingdom currently boasts a freelancer workforce exceeding 1,674,600 individuals. Detailed data also confirms the presence of 281 approved professions that qualify for self-employment document issuance, along with 47 approved service providers.

In a strategic initiative, the ministry has initiated the issuance of one-year valid freelance certificates, enabling Saudi citizens to engage in various activities. This platform empowers them to independently pursue approved activities endorsed by the ministry, via the online self-employment portal. Beyond its fundamental role, this document allows freelancers to voluntarily enroll in social insurance, formalize contracts with both government and private entities using the certificate as an official document, open bank accounts connected to the document, and leverage digital payment channels.

Moreover, the ministry has successfully granted 377,800 flexible work contracts and licenses for 115,000 remote employees up to June 30, 2023. Notably, 7,800 companies have transitioned to remote work models, while 7,600 companies have embraced flexible work arrangements. A comprehensive suite of over 15 electronic services now supports these modern work pattern platforms.

Highlighting these accomplishments, Eng. Ahmed Al-Rajhi, the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Future Business Company, emphasized that these milestones underscore the agility of the labor market in adapting to new changes. These changes facilitate young Saudi men and women’s involvement in contemporary work patterns, allowing them to contribute their talents and skills to the nation’s economic progress.

Remarkably, the Future Work Company is actively pursuing initiatives to provide discounted medical insurance packages for freelancers, collaborating with various banking service providers to streamline access to banking products and digital payments. The launch of the Med Platform further underlines their commitment to offering sustainable job opportunities in line with modern work pattern programs.

Ultimately, the Future Work Company is resolutely committed to stimulating the self-employment economy, unleashing the boundless potential of Saudi citizens. The objective is to cultivate a thriving economy through innovative solutions that resonate with the aspirations of the nation’s young populace, thereby establishing a dynamic and liberated labor market.
