The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service successfully apprehended four individuals associated with the notorious terrorist organization, ISIS. Among the captured suspects was a skilled explosives expert, as reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

According to an official statement from the Iraqi Security Media Cell (ISMC), the arrests unfolded in a coordinated effort across different regions. Security officers successfully detained one terrorist within the city of Kirkuk, while two others were captured in areas situated in Sulaymaniyah, a northern region of Iraq.

The operation marks a continued commitment by Iraqi security forces to eradicate the remnants of ISIS, following the group’s expulsion from the country in December 2017. At that time, Iraq declared the liberation of its entire territory, after nearly four years of fierce combat against the terrorist organization, which had seized control of approximately one-third of the nation.

Post-ISIS, Iraq remains vigilant, conducting targeted operations in the governorates of Nineveh, Kirkuk, Diyala, Salah Al-Din, Anbar, and the surrounding areas of Baghdad. These ongoing efforts underscore the Iraqi government’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens by eliminating the lingering threat posed by terrorist groups.

Despite the setbacks suffered by ISIS, it’s important to note that the organization had previously occupied significant swaths of Iraq and Syria. Iraqi authorities have repeatedly emphasized their unwavering resolve to combat terrorism and implement strict controls on the use of weapons within the nation.
