100-year-old Russian woman survives coronavirus

A Russia woman has recovered from Covid-19. The 100-year-old woman beat the virus and left a Moscow hospital after she fully recovered.

Russia was in celebration as Pelageya Poyarkova who happens to be Russia’s first case to be treated and discharged from the hospital on Wednesday which marked her 100th birthday.

The elderly woman who had contracted the virus while receiving routine treatment in another hospital was surrounded with doctors and journalists as she left the hospital wearing a face mask and holding a bouquet of red roses.

When she developed symptoms and was later confirmed positive, she was transferred to the Moscow Brain Centre, a hospital known for treatment of stroke victims but converted to an emergency center for coronavirus treatment.

The hospital confirmed in a statement that Poyarkova was the first patient of her age to have survived the deadly virus.

According to Vsevolod Belousov, the director of the hospital, “She turned out to be a tough old lady.”

“She did not require intensive care and had standard treatment with blood-thinning drugs,” he added.
Poyarkova has rejoined her family and now lives with her daughter and son-in-law.
So far, there have been 252,245 confirmed cases in Russia, 53,530 recoveries and 2,305 deaths.
