Beirut Explosion: Lebanese government probes 16 people

Sixteen individuals connected with the Beirut port warehouse explosion have been detained by the Lebanese government, following Investigations into the blast that rocked the city on Tuesday claiming about 145 lives.

According to a report by NNA, the state news agency, a government representative at the military court disclosed on Thursday August 6, 2020 that customs officials and individuals who carry out maintenance work at the warehouse where the explosion occurred are being investigated.

He said that investigation was still ongoing as of the time he made the statement.

Judge Fadi Akiki, who represents government at the military court, said that not less than 18 port and custom officials and other individuals who are in one way or the other connected with the warehouse have so far being questioned.

“Sixteen people have been taken into custody as part of the investigation,” Fadi said.
