Covid-19: 6,000 Saudi doctors provide free services in 41 countries
As part of contributions to the fight against coronavirus, not less than 6,000 doctors from Saudi Arabia have volunteered to provide free medical care in 41 countries.
This was disclosed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday April 13, 2020.
While disclosing the international solidarity, the ministry highlighted the work of more than 6,000 Saudi doctors in 41 countries in the fight against the pandemic.
A video shared on the ministry’s Twitter account showed Saudi doctors in different parts of the world sending a unified message of support: “We stand by you to any human needs medical attention.”
Countries with Saudi doctors include France, UK, Austria, Switzerland, Canada and the Republic of Ireland among others.
“Saudi doctors are in these countries to re-iterate their country’s value that humans come first regardless of race and religion especially at a time when the pandemic doesn’t discriminate between its victims,” an official from the ministry said.
Recently, more than 280 Saudi doctors who were participating in the French-Saudi specialization program decided to stay in France to help their colleagues combat the outbreak of coronavirus in the country, according to the Saudi foreign ministry.
The Saudi doctors were part of the scholarship programs sponsored by the government which offered them training and internships in several French hospitals.
Also, a Saudi doctor, who decided to stay in Italy rather than return home when he was given the chance to do so during the outbreak as part of a repatriation plan, shared his story with Al Arabiya and said, “I could not leave. The sounds of the ambulances and cars transporting the dead filled the city, and my role as a doctor is essential during these crises.”
